A Time to Remember
THE DAY THE FAMILY CAME
Copyright 2005 by Charles Henry
When the family came, it was a happy day,
We were sending our Dear Mother, on her way.
Our emptiness was soon replaced with tears,
As we all remembered the passing years.
We talked of the days when we were small,
And how proud Mum was, of one and all.
How the slightest sign of something wrong,
Would leave no one doubting, that she was strong.
She made us laugh when we were sad,
And she sent us to bed, if we were ‘bad’.
She made us clothes, and even fancy dress,
It meant we were rarely second best.
If we had a pain, she’d ‘kiss it better’.
Or if a teacher complained, she’d write us a letter!
When the truth emerged, she’d make sure we knew.
That what ever else, we must always be true.
As we all grew up, we soon learned why;
We must never ever tell a lie.
When life ‘happens’, it must be faced,
Things must be admitted; that’s not a disgrace.
Now we’re all grown, with families tall.
We’ve learned the reason she ’set out her stall’.
She’s made quite sure, that what ever besets them,
The new generation, will have her wisdom to help them.
So what ever comes to test us all now,
We know that she’ll be there, to show us how.
We must all keep working, and doing our best.
Until the family come again, and it’s our turn to rest.
