In her letter “Can MPs help?” (Your Say, July 18), Mrs M Duckett raises with readers the idea that there should be a national disaster fund to help the victims of the recent floods in the UK.
Mrs Duckett and other readers may be interested to know that the UK Government can apply for EU Solidarity Funds to help with the clear-up operation.
My Liberal Democrat colleague for Yorkshire and the Humber, one of the worst affected areas, Diana Wallis MEP, is working with local organisers to apply pressure to ensure the UK Government takes this action.
In view of the recent floods in Gloucestershire, I have also written to Prime Minister urging that the Government makes an application for this funding.

Parliament for South West England and Gibraltar
“But it’s OUR money in the First place Mr. Watson. . The EU HAS NO MONEY. . . If you people in Europe weren’t so proliferate (and profligate) and dishonest with our tax money in the first place, there would be plenty to go round. . . . . You are part of the problem! . Not the solution!. . How much did you say they pay you? . . And how big are your expenses?. . . AND JUST HOW BIG IS YOUR CARBON FOOTPRINT!!??” .

‘FORGOTTEN HEROES ARE NOW HISTORY’ (W.D. Press)
I understand that most of the youth today in the UK don’t do “stuff” such as history.
Perhaps their real world began the day they were born.
Churchill? Where’s that? Walking recently from Hampstead Heath, I was reminded of this when I noticed that a commemorative plaque to George Orwell (aka Eric Blair) had been taken away and also that the small stone effigy of his head had disappeared from over the shop door where Orwell worked (circa 1935) at Hampstead.
Animal Farm? 1984? Wozzat about? I sense Orwell is perhaps not politically appropriate for these giddy, spinning times.

That is why they had to turn ‘Big Brother’ into a ‘game’ Mr.McManus. . The deceit of ‘Fabianism’ in the Media and in Government knows no bounds. . . Big Brother is no longer just ‘watching us’. . . He is now brainwashing all our children! . . And you thought North Korea was bad.

‘HERE WE GO, IT’S SHAUN HERE AGAIN’.(W.D. Press)
Here, in my letter, I would like to ask the question, why is “here” used so often?
Here, in this paragraph, I would like to ask, is BBC 1 News the worst offender?
Here, in this sentence I wish to state that I’ve used the BBC 1 News service for most of my life.
Here, in this sentence I would like to state that I have dropped the BBC 1 News for its repetitive use of the word “here".
And, finally, here I am asking why?

NEITHER LEADER WILL WITHDRAW FROM EU.(W.D. Press)
While I agree with the general sentiments expressed by Edmund Goodland, “Brown must put our own interests first” (Your Say, July 21), I was not clear whether he was more concerned with Gordon Brown’s attitude concerning Britain and the EU or the English contribution to the EU, although they are inextricably linked.
Our PM has made clear his policies regarding the EU and an English Parliament which leaves very little opportunity for discussion or alternative opinion.
I fail to understand how any English who are not completely satisfied with the present fiscal situation should expect anything other than cosmetic changes in the above from a Labour Government whose support and popularity seems to be holding up without making any change.
Nor do I believe any radical changes will come from the Conservative Party. Since Edward Heath’s time it has blindly followed the same course, signing endless commitments in favour of the EU. Unfortunately, Cameron is not the man to challenge this, or withdraw from the EU.
As all three main political parties are in favour of the EU and England paying its contribution, together with monies to Scotland, Ireland and Wales through the discredited Barnett Formula, perhaps it is time for a new political party to speak for the English, and if some readers think this is a step too far, may I remind them that our PM took a public oath acknowledging the rights of the Scottish people.
As the saying goes: “What’s sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.”

You are right in what you say N.F.Hancock. Our Democracy is far from perfect, but it’s all we have at the moment; and whilst the livings of so many revolve around State funding and State employment, there will be no quick solution. . It was deceitful people who set this whole Maelstrom in motion, and it we will take great wit and ingenuity to disentwine ourselves whilst retaining our integrity. . . Integrity is something many now know very little about. . . Particularly those behind this whole ‘FABIANISED’ state in which we are all now embroiled, thanks to New-Labour.
