Bovine TB in Camelids

:| A quote from the Bovine TB Blog.

“Since Sept 2008 I have lost 4 alpacas to TB. Last Friday I put down two of my boys who were coughing and despite having negative skin tests 6 weeks earlier, they were both confirmed with Tb.[at post mortem] I did get the research lab to conduct the ’stat - pak rapid test’ on the two animals which were put down and the result was a strong positive. The skin test is useless [on alpacas].

I am in touch with 7 other Tb affected alpaca owners and gathering data-time lines symptoms etc. Many had it brought into their farms through matings etc.”

THE PREVALENCE AND DISTRIBUTION OF MYCOBACTERIUM BOVIS INFECTION BADGERS.

The prevalence and distribution of Mycobacterium bovis infection in European badgers (Meles meles) as determined by enhanced post mortem examination and bacteriological culture.
Res Vet Sci. 2009 Jun 20;
Authors: Murphy D, Gormley E, Costello E, O’Meara D, Corner LA

The accurate diagnosis of Mycobacterium bovis infection in badgers is key to understanding the epidemiology of tuberculosis in this species and has significant implications for devising strategies to limit spread of the disease. In this study, badgers (n=215) in the Republic of Ireland were examined at post mortem and tissues were collected from a range of anatomical locations and pooled into groups for bacterial culture of M. bovis. By assessing confirmed gross visible lesions (VL) alone, infection was detected in 12.1% of badgers.

However, by including the results of all culture positive pooled samples, the overall infection prevalence increased significantly to 36.3%. Two-thirds (66.7%) of infected animals had no visible lesions (NVL).

While the thoracic cavity (lungs and pulmonary lymph nodes) was found to be the most common site of infection, in a proportion of animals infection was absent from the lungs and draining lymph nodes and was confined to the lymph nodes of the carcase or the head. This may indicate an early extrapulmonary dissemination of infection or alternatively, in the case of the head lymph nodes, a secondary pathogenic pathway involving the lymphoid tissues of the upper respiratory tract (URT).

DECEPTION IS AT THIS GOVERNMENT’S HEART

A letter by Dan White of Haccombe, Devon

Dear Editor,

“How can I believe a word you say?” is a question Gordon Brown asked of his predecessor. . Tony Blair’s reply is not recorded, but could well have been the same question. We have a Prime Minister who is incapable of playing it straight or admitting to have got anything wrong. . Spin and deception is embedded in the heart of his Government.

For example, in the spat with the Tories about future levels of public expenditure, Mr Brown’s assertion that Labour’s plans do not involve cuts whereas the Tories’ do has been rumbled as a deceit along the lines of Bill Clinton’s brazen statement that “I did not have sex with that woman". It all depends on what was meant by sex or, in Brown’s case, cuts.

Both parties are in fact talking about similar cuts in real terms after inflation. Mr Brown’s headlines have never coincided with reality. The full implications of his Budgets never surfaced until the small print was disclosed; like the prize-winning draws that come through the post. The point is not so much future policy but manipulation of the figures to deceive.

This is the man who claimed to have ended the “boom and bust” cycle. . When the inevitable bust came he was swift to blame the bankers and the Americans. Both were certainly culpable; but so was Mr Brown. . He encouraged, through an easy credit policy, a house price and public spending bubble financed by high levels of private and public debt.

Is there any chance of his acknowledging his part in this? Pigs might fly. “Buy now, pay later” is yet again the policy. We shall all be paying for this folly for many years.

Despite his vaunted “moral compass,” the Prime Minister is surrounded by attack dogs to whom truth is a childish concept. It is no coincidence that “the Prince of Darkness” now occupies a central position.

The MPs’ expenses scandal spreads over all parties, but the deceit at the heart of this Government is also a major element in disenchantment with politics.

Until honesty in conduct and debate is restored, no amount of tinkering with constitutions and procedures will restore the confidence of the public.

All Stand. . GOD SAVE THE QUEEN

:| I think we should all now quietly stand, and then drink a toast to The Bloodless Revolution. . Not forgetting that there will yet be a little more to do in the by-elections.

But don’t forget, just as in Iran there will always be ‘would-be’ dictators like Lord Mandelson trying to thwart democracy.

We can now all begin to get our country back.

IS IT NOW TIME FOR THE REVOLUTION!? . . . . (Or has it already begun?)

THE REAL FACE OF THE EUROPEAN UNION

:( On 5th. June 2008 Conservative leader David Cameron addressed a public meeting in Harlow Essex.

He admitted he may never be able to fulfil his promise of a referendum on Europe.

The Tory leader warned Labour could have signed away power to Brussels BEFORE he gets into 10 Downing Street. . He says, “It would then be too late to throw the changes into reverse.". . . . . .

:| IS IT NOW THE TIME; PARTICULARLY FOR THOSE WHO WOULD NORMALLY SUPPORT GORDON BROWN, TO SUPPORT U.K.I.P.?

The UK Parliament completed the technical ratification of the Reform Treaty circa 16th. July and with unknown haste had the Queen give Royal Assent the following morning, Thursday 17th., before flying off with the completed document to the EU. . . . . .

(But what about the CORONATION OATH?)

This was also prior to the High Court ruling on Stuart Wheeler’s case.

It now only awaits the (guaranteed!) clearance of the EU to make it so. The Reform Treaty may be viewed as a ’self amending’ Treaty, there will be no/little requirement of the EU Commission to seek individual member country approval (referendum).

:| The rules of the EU on the matter of referendum are straightforward, if one country failed to get support of a treaty in a referendum of its electorate that treaty was finished ie in 2005 the EU Constitution was dropped (in name only) after the Dutch and the French rejection.

The political elite of the EU have been totally exposed by their reaction to the Irish referendum. And as I have long believed, whatever the EU is it is proving it is no more democratic than the USSR used to be.

It will only be like this if we continue to allow them to ride roughshod over public opinion, as they have done with the unregulated immigration and many other issues. . The next thing that will very soon be gone are Britain’s rolling ‘Green ACRES’. . . By dictate from Brussels they are to become Britain’s 0.40468564 HECTARE Gypsy encampments and Concrete Jungles.

FARMER LOSES FIGHT TO SAVE CATTLE FROM CULL!

:| Quote from a Government VET:-

“Farmers are under stress, cattle are being slaughtered, sick badgers are suffering enormously and the disease is spreading to domestic animals. And what are we doing? . BANGING DRUMS!”

That’s right they were sent on a course to play Bongo Drums. . Presumably to try and make them good Socialists and better CATTLE KILLERS.

:| Quote:- “TB reactors; with or without clinical signs of disease; present a health risk to other cattle in herd, contiguous herds, wildlife and humans.

“Reactor animals are therefore required to be culled quickly to reduce the risk of the disease spread.”

. . And BADGERS DON’T!!??

. . These people are guilty of ‘The Criminal Neglect of their responsibility’, in my opinion.
