SHOPKEEPERS FIGHT ‘DRACONIAN’ RATE RISE
Shopkeepers fight ‘draconian’ rate rise. . WESTERN MORNING NEWS
SHOPKEEPERS in the West Country have claimed they will be crippled by “draconian” new business rate values that will see some facing rises of more than 100 per cent. . cond.
So the Supermarkets with their FREE CAR PARKS will continue to decimate the High Streets aided and abetted by pusillanimous, obsequious councils that have more or less encouraged governments to destroy the traditional retailers’ market place.
Supermarkets now boom by crushing their suppliers of food and moving greedily into the ‘White’ goods market, and all the other products of the traditional retailer; always giving second rate expertise and second rate service. . And they call this PROGRESS!!
ROLL ON THE REVOLUTION!!!

MPs AWAIT LETTERS AFTER EXPENSES REVIEW
MPs await letters after expenses review. . Western Morning News
What a rotten-to-the-core shower we have in parliament. Why are these MPs allowed to get away with merely ‘paying back’ what they’ve stolen? Oh, I forgot, it was within the rules. There should be mass prosecutions and jail sentences. If I were to pinch a tub of butter from my local store, I would have a criminal record - even if I offered to pay. It’s not good enough. Prosecutions must follow for the electorate to have any faith (whatever there is) in the British justice.
Taurus, Redruth
I think that’s completely ‘over the top’ Taurus. . MPs are a very easy target, doing a very necessary job, and this is now beginning to get like a Witch Hunt. . . Because there is no political gain, only pain if they defend themselves, the argument has now been totally skewed against them. . (ALL PARTIES). . The fact remains that MPs salaries had been pegged, (You only have to look at the number of Civil Servants earning more than the Prime Minister.) . . Expenses of up to £20,000 was seen as the compensation. . Some took it all in a totally transparent upfront way, probably because of their financial situation regarding a second home, whilst others found more imaginative ways of using their allowance, but I repeat, it was their allowance, it was legal, and it was agreed by the fees office. . Many may be altruistic in politics, but I have to say there is no way I would have ever done the job for the money they are paid. . . And as they now seem to be trying to make it, the only people who will be doing the job are those who are incapable of earning those sums in the wider world, but have ‘The Gift of The Gab’. . If people really want to get exorcised about this sort of thing, they should turn their angst against the European Commission and the fortunes being made there by commissioners, past and present.

A BAG-MAN’S LOATHING
Western Morning News. . A Bag-Man’s Loathing
“I stand corrected, Charles, about learned and learnt. Just shows that having a tendency to make grammatical errors doesn’t invalidate one’s opinions - as I said before!
But now you’ve gone even further and started describing people who disagree with you as lice. Really, Charles, you couldn’t make it up!”
Will, Mid Devon
I think you should reconsider Will. . On an earlier reply I wrote,
“Peter Mandelson’s ‘Darkness’ has clearly permeated to many of his followers. . Now blinded by envy and deep feelings of inferiority, they know no bounds to the depths of loathing to which they are prepared to sink, just to massage their hatred.”
However ‘it’ continued with its venomous unpleasantness. . So turning the other cheek once again I wrote, (As I am a Christian as you know.)
“Oh dear; he’s forgotten to take his tablet again. . I hope the Editor is a Christian.” .
But no, the poison has leached into his frontal lobe affecting his ability to plan properly and make judgements. . So with one last attempt to avoid blood-shed I wrote,
“Little do those who cannot even spell, know the dangers they face if they set out upon a path of denunciatory invective. . The pen is mightier than the sword. . Death will ‘PROBERLY’ be slow and painful. . The Editor’s guillotine would be seen as a merciful relief for them.
So I think it would be far better if certain people learnt that it would be better if they stayed silent when they clearly have no knowledge of the subject on which they are pontificating.”
I should of course have used the phrase ‘more advantageous’ rather than repeating the adjective ‘better’; but ‘hey ho’. . I’m only a lad from a council estate.
Did you know better can be used as an adjective, a noun, an adverb or a verb?. I think the English language is a wonderful thing Will. . I do wish I’d had an education like you!

********* Now best read from bottom.*********
I stand corrected, Charles, about learned and learnt. Just shows that having a tendency to make grammatical errors doesn’t invalidate one’s opinions - as I said before!
But now you’ve gone even further and started describing people who disagree with you as lice. Really, Charles, you couldn’t make it up!
Will, Mid Devon
In this case Will, and on this subject, I’m afraid it does. . When we find lice they have to be dealt with. . That’s just good husbandry. . You have strange bed-fellows Will. . And I thought you were above it all, but I was obviously mistaken. . Learnt is the English past participle of the verb ‘learn’, Will. . Learned is American. . And I thought you were the educated one! . .
Charles Henry
Charles - making spelling errors doesn’t mean your opinion is any less valuable. Neither does incorrect grammar. Drawing attention to these errors is a cheap and nasty ploy, and only reduces your own credibility.
But I’ll take that chance anyway by suggesting that you meant to say “learned” rather than “learnt” - a simple mistake from someone from a single parent family on a council estate with ideas above their station - which of course doesn’t devalue your opinion either.
Come on, Charles, rely on the strength of your arguments, not on cheap slurs about people’s spelling errors - which are no more valid than the (intentionally) unpleasant comments I have made above.
Will, Mid Devon
Little do those who cannot even spell, know the dangers they face if they set out upon a path of denunciatory invective. . The pen is mightier than the sword. . Death will ‘PROBERLY’ be slow and painful. . The Editors guillotine would be seen as a merciful relief for them.
So I think it would be far better if certain people learnt that it would be better if they stayed silent when they clearly have no knowledge of the subject on which they are pontificating.

Jerry Jones you are a hypocrite.
An agenda driven Neu Laber class warrior !
Farming standards slipping !
Compared to what you ##### ?
Ian, South Brent
I have always said on here, on more than one occasion that if this government ordered a cull I would support it. I will not support it left in the hands of farmers. I’m afraid farming standards is sinking fast in this country as farmers think they can do what they want. If the cull is controlled by the government all well and good. Also farmers should be made to check all livestock for TB before buying, which they are not,and hunting is to be banned on land used by cattle. There is now evidence coming forward that horses are spreading it on the hoofs. Take no notice of people on here, half of them have never been on a horse and the other half don’t even know what one looks like. They just like to find something to have a go at the government with. If farmers stuck to those two things the cases of TB would go down. Now watch out for Professor Henry flogging his old mate King.
Jerry Jones, Dorset
Ding ,ding ,ding! Gentlemen calm down please. Lets remember the poor badger happily scurrying about, oblivious to the fact it may be carrying such a threat with it. Will a cull solve the problem? Also will other animals scavenge off the dead badger and so spread the disease even further? I would much rather see a cure and keep the badger. Surely in these modern times we have the technology or is it a case of money yet again.
Allan, Brasil>
Oh…(penny drops)… so Charles isn’t a New Labour supporter then? Come on, Charles - speak out why don’t you!
Will, Mid Devon
You must relly do something about this “Manic” illness Charlie Boy. I’m surprised you support the tories after being dragged up on an housing estate in a single parent family. This chip on your shoulder is doing you no good at all,and getting ideas above your station isn’t working. Your background is showing. The envy of politics is not in your case old son. There is treatment, may i suggest you get some as soon as possible. Don’t blame other people for your position in life. I blame the parents.
Jerry Jones, Dorset
Oh dear; he’s forgotten to take his tablet again. . I hope the Editor is a Christian.
Charles Henry
Another rant from “Manic Man". Who privatised Electric and gas in the first place, who wasted all our revenue from gas because they put thousands out of work. We could have rerinvested, but because the nasty party wasted it. Try and say valid instead of showing your ignorance.
